Donald L. Shields

Age 91, of Minerva, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 in the Minerva Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born Feb. 18, 1933 in Canton to Harold and Elizabeth (Shory) Shields.  He retired from Miller Refuse Co. and had worked as a fuel truck driver for Sohio.  He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church where he is a former Deacon. He is a US Army Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Ray) Shields who died in 2013 and a sister, Mildred Wartluft.  He is survived by a daughter, Sonia (Kirk) Weber of Holly Springs, NC, son, Scott (Diane) Shields of Minerva, sister, Dorothy Birney of Minerva, 4 grandchildren, Shannon (Daniel), Emily, Rachel (Timmy), Scotty (Crystal) and 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Grayson, Branson, Isaac, Kylee and Kolton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating.  Burial with full military honors will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens.  Calling hours will be Tuesday 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  Those wishing to send condolences may sign the online register at www.gotschallfuneralhome.com.
