Dewight Friend

Age 95, of Malvern, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025 in the Aultman Compassionate Care Center. He was born Dec. 19, 1929 to Holly and Amy Inez (Cottrell) Friend. He retired from the Malvern Water and Sewer Department where he was a supervisor for many years, and was a former member of the Malvern Police Department and Aux and the Malvern Fire Department, and managed the Malvern Golf Station.  He is a longtime member of the Malvern United Methodist Church and a US Navy Veteran.  He is a past master and 70 year member of Augusta Lodge #504 F&AM, Past Worthy Patron of Carroll Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star #315, 32nd  degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton and the Malvern American Legion #375.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Kelsey) Friend who died in 2018, son, Paul Friend, sister, Zelda Friend, and a brother, Luther Friend.  He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Shock of Canton, granddaughter, Heather (Jeff Grosenbaugh) Shock of Louisville and 3 great grandchild, Jayden, Jensen and Jordan Grosenbaugh, .

Following cremation, a Memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am in the Malvern United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Masonic Services will be held at 10:45 am. Full military honors will follow the services at the church. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services from 10am to 10:45 am at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Malvern Christian Care Center.
