David Gary Miller Sr.
age 74, of Minerva went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 1, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born June 4, 1943 in Canton. He retired from the RC Miller Refuse Company where he worked for his brother for many years. He is a member of the Minerva United Methodist Church, former social member of the VFW Post #4120. David loved his family and his Lord. He also loved life, living each day to the fullest. His smile was contagious. Dave loved Ohio State Buckeye Football and loved to fish. He was an avid golfer having helped organize the first father/son golf outing at his favorite course, Great Trail Golf. Dave spent many hours playing cards and games with family and friends. He loved to cook and was famous for his smoked meats and smoker pizza. He loved family get togethers, reunions and the such, having passed down many family traditions to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda L. (Davies) Miller whom he married July 30, 1961, sisters, Joanne (Bob) Kohl, Janice (Lynn) Davis both of Minerva, Janette (Dale) Maxwell of Greenville, SC, special sister-in-law, Pat Miller of Minerva, daughters, Marie Dickens (Paul Hawkins) of Minerva, Tina (Frank) Efinger of Canton, Patti (Dick) Winter of East Rochester, sons, David Miller Jr. of Boliver, Rusty (Kassie) Miller of Minerva, 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Elsner, Justin Dickens, Rusty Miller, Hunter Miller, Jacci Winter, Travis Winter, 8 great grandchildren, Xavier, Carson, Owen, Izzabella, Payton, Bradley, Burgandi and Eli. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Gary David, mother, Ellen Stockum, father, Carl Miller, stepfather, Sheldon "Shorty" Stockum, brothers, Rusty Stockum and RC Miller, sisters, Marilyn Becker and Carolyn Miller.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the Minerva United Methodist Church with Rev. Harley Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please donate to the food program at the Minerva United Methodist church.
