David E. Henning
Age 67, of Minerva, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Mercy Medical Center after a courageous 8-month battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born July 3, 1952 in Canton, Ohio to the late Richard and Mary (Blackburn) Henning. He was a school bus mechanic for Minerva Local Schools, where he worked with his cousin Stan Gassman for 38 years, and was a member of the Ohio School Bus Mechanics Assoc. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday School for many years and currently attended Beloit Friends Church. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1970, was an avid reader, and loved to repair farm equipment and automobiles. He loved Jesus and people and lived his life quietly, without pretense or complaint.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi (Mounts) Henning, whom he married in 1974; daughter, Rachel (Joe) Conway of New Franklin; 3 brothers, Dale (Christa, deceased) Henning of Paris, Ohio, Paul (Debbie) Henning of Marysville, Ohio, Jonathan (Rebecca) Henning of Greenville, SC; brother-in-law, Philip Mounts of Washington, PA; 2 grandsons, Isaiah (10) and Gabriel (8); 10 nieces and nephews: Mandy, Katie, Caleb, Scott, Kelsey, Luke Kerry, Sam, Ben and Joanna; 2 aunts and many cousins; and dear friends, Donn and Penny Nelson of Spokane, WA. Deep appreciation to cousin Dena Cooper for walking with him through the many long days of chemotherapy and final hospital stay.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Christ Memorial Church in Robertsville with Pastor Mark Reich officiating. Burial will be in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 27, 2019 5-8 PM in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva, Ohio and an hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Voicu and Ana Marian, missionaries to Romania, through Beloit Friends Church.
