Dan P. Toalston

Age 73, of Minerva passed away, November 29, 2024.  He was born Jan. 1, 1951 in Canton to the late Mervin "Tootie" and Jeanette (Niuman) Toalston. He is meat cutter, manager and decorator for Kishman's IGA in Minerva and formerly worked at Niuman's Meats. An active member of the Minerva First Christian Church, Dan employed his artistic skills and  created and managed the puppet ministry for 34 years. He was also a Sunday School Teacher, church elder, a trustee, and a key member of the video ministry. Scouting has played a major role in Dan's life from boyhood through manhood. Dan was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 150 in Minerva for 14 years.  And active in the formation of BSA Girl Troop 150 at the Minerva Sportsman's Club. Dan is an Eagle Scout, holding two palms, 5th year pipestone holder, 5th year polar bear, woodbadge and has earned four 50 miler awards. Dan has nearly held every volunteer position in the Cub and Scout Troops in Minerva.  He has also held many committee positions at the district and council levels. He served as a member of the Eagle Advancement Committee and as a contingent leader to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and as Assistant Scoutmaster for the Buckeye Council to the National Jamboree. Dan is a Vigil member of Sippo Lodge Order of the Arrow, holds the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver, and was the Sandy Beaver District Scoutmaster of the Year in 2012.  He had been inducted in the Minerva High School Alumni Hall of Fame and was the Minerva Service Clubs Person of the Year in 2016. He coached youth baseball teams for 14 years. Dan is a good man who consistently taught and influenced young men to become strong leaders in their community.

He is survived by a daughter, Abby Girdlestone of Canton, 2 sons, Andy Toalston of Johnstown and Ted Toalston of IN, sister, Debra (Howard) Thompson of Columbus and 4 grandchildren.
