Charles M. Shandor
Age 72 of Minerva passed away Wed. May 30, 2012 in the Cleveland Clinic. He was born July 9, 1939 in Moultrie to the late Charles and Mildred (Enoch) Tohey. Charles worked at TRW in Minerva for 17 years and retired from the Timken Co. in 2001 after 25 years of service. He worked part time for Kishman's IGA in Minerva and Loudon Motors. He served 4 years in the US Navy on the USS Robert A. Owens. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America, Golden Lodge Local Union #1123, in Canton, Minerva Eagles Aerie #2199, Stockers and Streeters Car Club in Minerva, Homeworth Masonic Lodge #499, F&AM and 32 degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton. Chuck enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and car shows and golfing after retirement. He was an avid sports fan especially for the Browns, Indians, and Buckeyes., He loved his grandchildren more than anything. They brightened his day.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his adoptive parents, John and Evelyn (Fortune) Shandor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Vera (Totten) Shandor whom he married Dec. 16, 1967, son, Charles H. (Beverly) Shandor of Carrollton, 2 daughters; Tracy Phillips of Minerva and Kristi Leyda of N. Canton, 4 loving grandchildren; Tony and Kyra Phillips, Kayla and Landon Leyda, 2 sisters; Judy (Sam) Abrahams of IL and Patty (Carl) Chappie of Canton, many nieces and nephews, aunt, Laura Leyda and uncle Nick Enoch.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Fredrick Bays officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 1-3 and 5-7 pm where Masonic services will be held at 4:45 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Research Foundation.
