Cecil J. Nitz

Age 93, of Minerva, passed away Wednesday, Sept 6, 2023 in the Roselane Care Center in Massillon. He was born Jan. 3, 1930 in West Virginia to Fred and Hazel (Zerkle) Nitz. He retired from ConRail where he had worked for over 20 years and had formerly worked for Good Roads Machinery in Minerva. He is a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Fairy (McGlinsey) Nitz who died in 2008, 7 sisters, Aberta Marteny, Veta Warner, Tatricia Nitz, Hope Dale Evan, Loraine Oliver, Tressie Register, Wilma Lemon, 10 brothers, Verlin, Charles, Leon, Jerry, Richard, Freddy, Roger, Ronald, Charles Larry and David Joseph Nitz and a grandson.  He is survived by a daughter, Sally Zarbach of Scio, 3 sons, Jerry (Brenda) Nitz of Carrollton, Harold (Betty) Nitz of Alliance, Robert Nitz of Minerva, 3 sisters, Wilda Jean (Harry) Cogar of Wayneburgh, PA, Ramona Carter of AL, Janice Lantz of Buckhannon, WV, brother, Stanley (Kathy) Nitz of Belvue, MI, 4 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday at 11:00 am in Grandview Cemetery in Scio with Gabriel Norris officiating.  Calling hours will be held Sunday 2-4 pm at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva.
