Carole J. Merrick, age 74, of Minerva, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family.  She was born Aug. 24, 1939 in Minerva to the late Bill and Mary (Holderbaum) Scott.  She graduated from Minerva High School in 1957 and received a Bachelor's in Education from Kent State University.  She taught grade school for several years in the Mary Irene Day Elementary School for the Minerva Local Schools.  She retired from Midwest Tubular in Alliance and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred P. Merrick who died in 2006 and a brother, Bill Scott. She is survived by 3 daughters; Karisa (Eric) Pasanchin of Centerville, Katyann Bowers of Minerva and Korey (Brian) Walsh of East Sparta, 2 brothers; Dave (Cheryl) Scott of Minerva and Darrel (Debbie) Scott of Loudonville, sister-in-law, Judy Scott of Minerva, 5 grandchildren; Aria Boyd, Aimee Bowers, Kendrick Bowers, Kassie (Christopher) Harrison and Brittany Piatt.
