Carl W. Gartner
Age 84 of Minerva, died Wed. July 13, 2011 in St. Luke's Lutheran Home for the Aging in North Canton. He was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Salem to George and Crystal (Wilson) Gartner. He is retired president of General Color and Chemical Co. in Minerva. He graduated from Salem High in 1944, attended Ohio State University and graduated from University of Mount Union. He is a US Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea. He is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva, University of Mount Union Board of Trustees, Minerva Historical Society, Tubal Lodge #551 F&AM, 32 Degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, Al Koran Shrine, American Legion Post #357 in Minerva, and the Great Trail Modeler's Car Club. He is a former member of the Minerva Board of Public Affairs, Glass Decorators Society, an American Ceramic Society Fellow, member of the Board of Directors for PNC Bank in Minerva, and Co-Chair of the University of Mount Union Alumni Fund.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha (Hawkins) Gartner whom he married Oct. 11, 1953, 4 children; Keith (Holly) Gartner of North Canton, Beth (Ken) Farnstrom of Anchorage, Alaska, Molly (Brad) Pirie of North Canton and Seth (Claudia) Gartner of Charlotte, NC, brother; Paul Gartner of FL, 8 grandchildren; Colin, Kevin, Coleman, Andrea, Anna and Daniel Gartner, Carson and Adam Pirie. He is preceded in death by a sister; Katherine Bloor, brother; Wilson Gartner and a granddaughter; Lauren Gartner.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday July 31st at 3:00 pm in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva with Pastor Steven Woyen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Luke Foundation or the University of Mount Union.
