Benjamin M. Shaffer
Age 58, went home to be with the Lord on Wed., January 25, 2012 from complications from heart disease. He was born June 22, 1953 in Fort Worth, TX to the late Rev. Daniel and Alice (Evans) Shaffer. He was a graduate of Sandy Valley High School and a former employee of General Color and Chemical in Minerva for over 35 years. He was a charter member of the Sandy Valley Baptist Temple where he attended for over 50 years and led the singing and taught Sunday School Class. He was an avid sports fan and was a certified OHSAA softball umpire and football referee.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Shaffer whom he was married for 30 years and a sister, Karlene Shaffer. He is survived by 2 daughters, Bendina (Rob) Stanford of Robertsville and Stefanie (Derek) Oesch of East Canton; 5 brothers and sisters, Christine (John) Teakell of CA, Kay Shaffer of WV, Becky (Jim) Hutchins of WV, Dan (Brenda) Shaffer of Massillon and Tim (Evelyn) Shaffer of OK; 6 grandchildren; Moriah and Aubrey Stanford, Catherine, Zachary, Joseph and Matthew Oesch, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Pastor Matt Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday 2 hours prior to services from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Sandy Valley Baptist Temple.
