Barry Joseph Heiks

age 71, of Minerva passed away Friday, September 20, 2024 in the home he built with his own hands in Minerva.  He was born September 11, 1953 in Canton to Weston and Mary (Miller) Heiks. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1971.  He was employed by the Timken Company for 35 years and then ran BH Cycle Tire Service for 15 years until his health declined.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Heiks Warner. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Susan (Tifft) Heiks whom he married April 16, 1977, and his two children, Joshua (Eva) Heiks and Megan (David) Crawford as well as his three grandchildren, Matthew, Mason, and Carter Crawford. He is also survived by a brother, Robert (Lois) Heiks of Pelzer, SC.

He was a rockhound and long time member of the Stark County Gem and Mineral Club. A second generation amateur radio operator with the call sign: AB8YE. He was a member of both the Alliance Amateur Radio Club and the Carroll Amateur Radio Society.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Dave Haught officiating.  Calling hours will be two hours prior to services from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
