Barbara J
Dunlevy
May 29, 1939 — Nov 3, 2026
Minerva, OH
Barbara J. Dunlevy
Age 87, of Minerva, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2026 in the West Virginia University Hospital in Wheeling after a battle with cancer. She was born May 29,1939 in Canton to Maurice and Olive (Roudebush) Brogan. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1957 and the Aultman School of Nursing. She then went on to practice nursing for 30 years plus in hospitals, nursing homes, industrial plants, in home care, and finally retired as a worker’s compensation nurse for the state of Ohio in 2006. BJ was a faithful member and attender of First Christian Church in Minerva and a lifelong servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, a deaconess, The Home Dept., Meals on Wheels and was a generous giver of her time, talents and finances to anyone in need.
There wasn’t a stranger that BJ didn’t or couldn’t befriend. She was always full of compliments, encouragement, and love for everyone. She was loved by her many friends who exemplified the scripture “A friend loveth at all times” because in her most recent struggle, they were there for her every step of the way. BJ was a fashionista and truly a fan of pop culture even in her older age. She was an exceptional Grandmother and Great Grandmother and always joined in the fun of games, coloring, and baking (even such things as popcorn balls most recently with her great grandchildren). Spending time with them was one of her greatest joys later in her life. BJ loved giving gifts that were unique and special and wrapped creatively with love.
BJ encountered trials, but she persevered regardless of the circumstances. She trusted Jesus to see her through, and she leaned on “His Everlasting Arms”. She fought with grace, grit, and a smile even in her darkest moments. We often called her “Rocky”.
She is survived by a daughter, Kelli (Leo) Gonot of St. Clairsville, 2 sisters, Patsy (Larry) Karlen of Minerva, Linda (Jim) Crouse of Minerva, grandson, Logan (Hannah) Gonot and 4 great grandchildren, Levi, Lucas, Linli and Liam. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Olive and her stepfather, Perry Patton, and a son, Mark Dunlevy.
A private family service will be held Saturday, November 7th in the chapel at East Lawn Cemetery with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating. Those wishing to send condolences may sign the online register at www.gotschallfuneralhome.com.
