Obituary

Barbara H. Baum, age 75, of Lake Mohawk, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 in the Great Trail Care Center. She was born August 8, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to Charles and Betty (Curtis) Utton. Her husband's US Army career moved them across the country where she taught school on several Army bases. Barb graduated from Miami University with a teaching degree and received her Master's in Education from Kent State University. After getting her own children off to school, she began what would be an inspirational 32 years of teaching at Perry Local Schools from which she retired. Her faith was strong as was her loyalty to her students and the teaching profession. Countless adults have approached Barb to say "thank you" and to remind her she was their "favorite" teacher. Her children will remember her for her energy, kindness, compassion and joyful spirit. Barb's passions were innumerable: art, tennis, golf, ice skating, teaching, snow and water skiing to name a few.

At the core of Barb's life was her family. She was the heart of the family and they were the love of her life. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Baum, whom she married June 23, 1962; and her two children, Kristen McDonald of Canton and Scott Baum of North Canton; 3 grandchildren, Meagan McDonald, Sophia Baum and Easton Baum; and a great grandson, Dominic. Barb always made each one of them feel special, loved and appreciated.
