Alva M. Suder Jr.

93, of Minerva, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 in Minerva Eldercare Center. He was born July 22, 1926 in Hall, WV to A. M. "Doc" and Ethyl (Williams) Suder Sr. and raised by his stepmother, Virginia (Williams) Suder. He retired from James River Corp in Minerva where he had worked for 25 years, starting with the Minerva Wax Paper Company. He is a member of the Minerva Church of Christ where he loved volunteering having helped with all the outside maintenance for many years and ran the Clothing Barn with his wife for 26 years. He is a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen (Hornbeck) Suder whom he married Jan. 10, 1948, 2 daughters, Judith (Richard) Ehling of Winter Springs, FL, Sandra (Bob) Trussel of Minerva, 3 sisters, Linda (Harold) Murphy of Buckhannon, WV, Ruth (Steve) White of Grafton, WV, Vera (George) Toot of Carrollton, 2 brothers, Robert (Evon) Suder of Buckhannon, WV, Eugene Suder of Buckhannon, WV, 3 grandchildren, Gary (Deema) Yeagley, Molly (Ben) Winslow, Gregg (Amy) Trussel, 4 great grandchildren, Ida and Lew Yeagley, Morgan (Dillon) Long, Izaak Trussel and a great-great granddaughter, Guinevere. He is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Wilda Morrison, Myrtle Marteney and a brother, Carrell Suder.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 noon in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Marty Martin officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be Tuesday, 2 hours prior to services from 10 am to 12 noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Minerva Church of Christ.
